Best Vaping Tips for Beginners
Have you asked yourself...What vape device should I buy? or What e-liquid should I buy? We have the best vaping tips for beginners and what vape gear you need to get started!
What is Vaping?
Let's get technical first...Vaping is the recreational use of inhaling and exhaling the aerosol, also known as vapour, which is produced by an electronic device called a vape or e-cigarette in combination with a vaping liquid referred to as e-liquid, e juice or vape juice.
Vaping at first is quite technical, and there are many options for vape devices and e-liquid, but once you get the gist it's quite simple. I will break down the 2 key questions most beginners ask below and I will try to give you the core principles to vaping to steer you in the right direction to what device & e-liquid best suits you!
What vape device should I buy?
Different Vaping Styles call for different set ups!
There are a few subcategories to vaping that can be a little confusing when you are first starting & trying to work out what's the right piece of kit for you; so we are going to simplify this and give you a summary of each so you can quickly determine which direction you should be heading in.
Mouth To Lung | MTL
Mouth to Lung devices closely simulate the feeling of smoking a real (analogue) cigarette. These devices offer a restrictive airflow to give you the same tight draw you would experience with a cigarette and are suitable for low to high strength nicotine e liquid (0mg up to 50mg). Pod Kits which are easy to use and very similar to a cigarette are in this category, so overall this device type is better suited towards current or ex smokers.
- PROS
- Cheaper entry price for hardware.
- Suitable with high nicotine strength e liquid inc Nicotine Salts.
- Your e liquid will last longer.
- Longer lasting battery life.
- Easy to use Pod Sytems are in this category.
- CONS
- Less advanced hardware options.
- Less advanced settings.
Direct To Lung | DTL
Direct to Lung devices simulate the sensation of big draws from shisha; you will inhale the vapor directly into your lungs. To achieve this - DTL devices have a wide and open air flow and output a lot more power to heat the e liquid, which in return creates more vapour. These devices are not suitable for high nicotine strengths as they can feel very harsh on the throat due to the nature of the amount of vapor you are inhaling. Pod Mod Kits and any device that outputs more than 50w is in this category.
- PROS
- Produces large vape clouds.
- More advanced settings & options.
- Larger Box Mods generally have replaceable battery cells.
- More intense flavour.
- CONS
- Not suitable with high nicotine strength e liquid inc Nicotine Salts.
- Will chew through battery life faster.
- Higher entry price for hardware.
- You will use e liquid faster.
What e-liquid should I buy?
There are plenty of options to choose from, so let's break it down to what flavour profile and what nicotine strength is suitable for you, with these specific vaping tips you will know what you are looking for!
What E-Liquid Flavour should I buy?
E-liquid is produced in many flavours; fruit, dessert, tobacco & plenty more. The options are endless and this can be the most confusing choice for beginners...." where do I begin!!!! "
If you are an ex-smoker coming from cigarettes then we highly recommend you start with a tobacco flavour first, as this will help you transition to vaping easier. If you want to experiment then a fruit flavour is a good option - these flavours tend to be the most popular as this profile is not over the top in sweetness and you can generally vape fruit flavours all day without getting to sick of them.
What Nicotine Strength should I buy?
If you are an ex-smoker transitioning to vaping from cigarettes, you will be looking at buying a MTL device most likely a pod system. We highly recommend you start vaping with a high nicotine strength e-liquid (20mg +). This will give you the nicotine satisfaction your body is used to coming from cigarettes. If you are a heavy smoker (pack a day) start at 40mg, for everyone else 20mg is a good place to start.
If you have been off cigarettes for a while and lowered your nicotine dependency then you can vape at a lower strength (0mg - 18mg). If you are using a DTL device we don't recommend you go over 6mg of Nicotine as it can be very harsh on the throat in these high powered systems.
